By Dr. Lisa D. Curcio, Breast Surgical Oncologist, Northern Dutchess Hospital
As a fellowship-trained breast surgical oncologist, I am specially trained to manage all breast care needs. As a breast cancer survivor, I also bring a personal understanding of what it is like to have a breast concern. I realized I could offer patients a unique perspective about their breast care options and what they were experiencing because I also had breast cancer. I was diagnosed with the disease when I was 38 years old.
If you have a breast concern, you need compassionate care, answers to your questions, and a game plan provided by a breast specialist. Visiting a fellowship-trained breast surgeon can provide the reassurance you need during what may feel like a frightening and overwhelming time.
That is why my practice at Nuvance Health’s Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY offers same-day appointments for new breast concerns, including:
A new lump in your breast or underarm (armpit)
Thickening or swelling of part of your breast
Irritation or dimpling of breast skin
Redness or flaky skin in the nipple area of the breast
Pulling in of the nipple or pain in the nipple area
Nipple discharge other than breast milk, including blood
I also see patients at Nuvance Health Medical Practices Kingston Breast Surgery location in Kingston, NY. You can make a same-day appointment without a referral, allowing you to conveniently receive the specialty care you need. Nuvance Health offers comprehensive breast care, including diagnostic, treatment and after-care services. If you receive a breast cancer diagnosis, the breast surgery program at Northern Dutchess Hospital can provide you with the surgical and oncological care you need, right in your community. Nuvance Health has invested a quarter-million dollars in new operating room equipment at Northern Dutchess Hospital. Perhaps most importantly, our breast care team will provide you with the information and education you need to actively participate in your care. We will help you make informed breast care choices by getting to know you and working with you to develop an individualized treatment plan.
Before joining Nuvance Health, I practiced at Memorial Care Medical Group and was Medical Director of Surgical Services at Breastlink in Laguna Hills, CA. I also was a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force where I was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS, and the Chief of Surgical Oncology at Keesler Medical Center.
I came to Nuvance Health to establish a state-of-the-art breast surgery program at Northern Dutchess Hospital and provide the community with a new level of breast care. I look forward to using my personal and professional experiences to care for women throughout the Hudson Valley.
