What is pelvic floor physical therapy?

Pelvic floor physical therapy is a specialized treatment approach geared towards addressing changes that may arise in the structures of the pelvic floor. Through various therapies, modalities and lifestyle management, therapists can help reduce the symptoms associated with weakness and/or tightness of the pelvic floor musculature allowing for improved quality of life.

What is pelvic floor dysfunction?

The pelvic floor is comprised of muscles, ligaments, nerves and connective tissue forming a sling that runs from the pubic bone to the tailbone.

These structures help support your abdominal and pelvic organs, maintain stability of your spine and pelvic girdle and play a key role in bowel, bladder, and sexual function.

Pelvic floor dysfunction occurs when the support structures and/or pelvic organs are not working optimally.
