Pulmonary testing and diagnosis at Nuvance Health

Pulmonary function tests help physicians determine the best way to treat your respiratory problems. During the tests, you will be asked to breathe in different ways. Testing can include:

  • Spirometry test: This test measures how well air moves in and out of your lungs. During the test, doctors may give you a treatment to open the airways in your lungs. Then you will be asked to repeat a breathing test. From this procedure, your doctor will learn how your lungs react to medication.
  • Plethysmography test: This helps us determine your lung volume and if you have problems getting air into your lungs.
  • Diffusion study: This test measures your lungs’ ability to get oxygen into your bloodstream. This study may also include an arterial blood gas test to measure the amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood.

We also offer:

  • Bronchoscopy
  • Lung cancer screening
  • Endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS)
  • Methacholine, cold air or exercise challenge testing for the diagnosis of asthma
  • Pulmonary exercise testing
  • Exercise oximetry for oxygen need assessment
  • Overnight oximetry
  • Fit-to-fly test for oxygen requirements during air travel
  • Altitude testing
