Nuvance Health® offers a variety of classes to help growing families prepare for the arrival of a new baby. Our comprehensive approach also includes tips and resources to support new parents as they adjust to life with a newborn. Families have access to childbirth, breastfeeding, newborn and postpartum classes. We also offer lactation consultants who guide one-on-one and in group settings.

Maternity pre-admission forms

For your convenience, we have provided downloadable forms for your labor and delivery. Please return the completed maternity pre-admission form and requested documents to the appropriate hospital location.

 

Maternity support at Danbury Hospital

Instructors from the birth center lead classes that help both parents learn about pregnancy and prepare for childbirth. New mothers may also participate in a free postpartum support group. During the support group, mothers of newborns can ask questions, share concerns and build relationships with other new moms.

Baby Care Basics

Learn the basics of caring for your newborn baby, including bathing, swaddling, feeding, diapering, burping, etc., finding a pediatrician and immunizations. This class is taught by a registered Nurse and a Doula from the Doula Program at Danbury Hospital - DONA/CAPPA certified doula and certified childbirth educator.

Breastfeeding Basics – Getting It Going, Keeping It Going and Being Successful

This virtual class reviews breastfeeding basics for mothers of newborns. A certified lactation consultant guides these discussions. Topics include:


  • Benefits of breastfeeding


  • Breastfeeding positions


  • How to establish milk supply


  • Troubleshooting common problems

Bump to Birth

This virtual class will provide an overview of pregnancy and childbirth. Topics to be discussed are pregnancy, labor, comfort measures and interventions during labor, medical interventions, cesarean birth, and breastfeeding after delivery. DONA/CAPPA certified doulas and certified childbirth educators teach this class.

Pregnancy and Childbirth Comfort Measures

This in person class teaches techniques that help expectant mothers stay comfortable during pregnancy, labor and delivery. This information can help you have a more calm, peaceful labor and delivery experience. DONA/CAPPA certified doulas and certified childbirth educators teach this class.

Postpartum Life

This class educates new moms and their partners on what to expect during baby’s first weeks of life. We provide tips new families can use to adjust to common challenges. Topics may include:

  • Emotional wellness
  • Healthy lifestyle habits
  • Physical changes and care

DONA/CAPPA certified doulas and certified childbirth educators teach this class.

Spinning Babies® Birth Preparation Class with a Spinning Babies® Certified Parent Educator


  • Comfort now and ease in birth


  • Essential daily activities


  • Balance tight birth muscles to let baby into position now


  • Learn birth positions to open the pelvis


  • Bring a birth partner and learn to do this together!


Babies “spin” to move through the pelvis.

Spinning Babies® Birth Preparation Class highlights your baby’s active role to rotate down and out of the pelvis. Learn techniques to help muscles in your pelvis support an easier birth. During labor, the baby turns through three levels of the pelvis. Together, you and your birth partner can use these techniques before and during labor to help “make room for baby!” Spinning Babies reveals how the baby can find optimal positions for labor and allows birth to be more comfortable.

Maternity support at Norwalk Hospital

We provide a variety of classes led by childbirth educators and lactation consultants. You may be new to childbirth, need a refresher or want to find information for older siblings or grandparents.

This class is open to all expectant mothers and their partners. A certified lactation consultant leads discussions covering:

Support group for parents of newborns. Discussion topics may include:

Maternity support at Vassar Brothers Medical Center

At Vassar Brothers Medical Center, we provide specialized services for breastfeeding support. Breastfeeding helps your baby by improving digestion, providing excellent nutrition and protecting against infection. New moms also benefit from bonding time, decreased postpartum blood loss and increased bone strength

Maternity support at Northern Dutchess Hospital

Families have access to a range of classes and support services at Northern Dutchess Hospital. We provide childbirth education for your whole family, as well as breastfeeding and lactation support. New mothers may also participate in postpartum support groups.

Milk Bank Depot

Northern Dutchess Hospital is a Milk Depot for the New York Milk Bank. All donors go through a screening process. To become a donor, call the New York Milk Bank at 212-956-MILK (212-956-6455).To make an appointment to drop off frozen milk, registered New York Milk Bank donors can call the birth center at (845) 871-3355.

At Putnam Hospital, you’ll find education about cesarean births, childbirth preparation and breastfeeding. You may also join one of our postpartum support groups.
