NICU at Danbury Hospital

Danbury Hospital's Spratt Family Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) houses the region’s only Level III NICU. This means we offer excellent care for complex neonatal conditions.

NICU at Danbury Hospital: Why choose us?

When your baby needs intensive care, it can be stressful. At Danbury Hospital, we aim to make a NICU stay as comfortable as possible while providing safe, compassionate care for your new baby. Additional highlights of our NICU include:

  • 24/7 neonatology coverage
A neonatologist is a doctor who specializes in caring for newborns. At Danbury, we have neonatologists in the NICU at all hours of the day, so your baby always has access to excellent care.
  • Comfortable, supportive environment
We designed our NICU for you to stay near your baby for as long as desired. Our NICU is a single-bed unit. We have three designated rooms for twins with the capability of using an adjacent room for triplets.
  • Access to pediatric specialists
Through our alliance with Connecticut Children’s, a nationally ranked pediatric health system, your newborn will be cared for by a team of pediatric specialists in our Level III NICU. Because of this relationship, your family has access to any necessary subspecialty services, such as cardiology, neurology or urology.
  • Breastfeeding support
Through our Touch Points program, you can keep in close contact with a lactation consultant who assists with breastfeeding throughout your baby’s NICU stay. Breastfeeding premature babies can enhance brain development and improve digestion. We provide pumping equipment in our NICU rooms so you never have to worry about relocating or transporting equipment.
  • Donor milk
We participate in a donor breast milk program for NICU babies so they can always get the nutrition they need.

Tiny Miracles

Through our partnership with The Tiny Miracles Foundation, parents have access to weekly mentoring sessions. Parents who previously had children in the NICU volunteer and lead these support sessions.

The Tiny Miracles Foundation also offers a welcome bag upon admission and a home care bag when your baby is discharged. Families may also apply for emergency financial assistance on an as-needed basis.
