Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does insurance pay for non-medical home care services?
Most medical insurance plans do not cover private-duty home care services. Long-term care insurance policies may reimburse some of the cost of non-medical care. Check with your medical insurance or long-term care insurance company.
  • Do I need to have been in the hospital or have a physician order to have private-duty care?
No. Because services are privately paid, and not paid by insurance, there are no requirements that must be satisfied.
  • Can I have home healthcare paid by my insurance and private-duty services (I pay for out of pocket) at the same time?
Yes, private-duty services can be provided while you are receiving home healthcare services. With private-duty service, you decide how many hours and days of service you wish to receive.
  • Will I have to sign a contract?
There are no contracts. You sign an agreement, as required by Connecticut regulations for Homemaker/Companion agencies. The agreement outlines the services to be provided, the terms of the service and the cost for those services. There is no commitment for a specific duration.
