Vassar Brothers Medical Center President is AHA’s Go Red for Women Chair

Susan Browning, appointed president at Vassar Brothers Medical Center

03/21/2024

Nuvance Health is a proud sponsor of the American Heart Association’s 2024 Go Red for Women celebration and equally thrilled Susan Browning is this year’s chair of the campaign.

Browning is the President of Vassar Brothers Medical Center and the Western Regional President of Nuvance Health, where she has operational oversight of Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY, and Putnam Hospital in Carmel, NY.

She is an accomplished executive with diverse experience in hospital and health system strategic development and operations, ambulatory network organization, and physician and community partnerships.

In 2023, she joined Nuvance Health from Northwell Health, where she served as Senior Vice President of Ambulatory Strategy and Business Development.

We checked in with Browning about her new role with the AHA and her involvement with Go Red for Women.

What are you most looking forward to as chair of the AHA Go Red for Women campaign this year?

This is an extraordinary opportunity to provide education to women throughout the Hudson Valley about heart disease. Heart disease is the number one killer of women; however, only half of women know that.

What do you hope women (and men) will gain from the Go Red campaign?

My hope is through education and awareness, our communities-at-large will develop insight into the impact of heart disease on women and community members will gain knowledge of the signs and symptoms of heart disease, as well as how healthy living can positively impact outcomes. My goal is to open this communication through all communities, thereby helping to mitigate the many inequities that exist within access to healthcare and clinical outcomes.

How do you see being chair as a continuation of your work at VBMC?

Vassar Brothers Medical Center, as a member of Nuvance Health, is at the forefront of cardiac care in the United States. As we continue to develop services, build programs and enhance access, community education and outreach is paramount. In this way, the work the team at VBMC does is fully aligned with the AHA Go Red for Women campaign, which has a large focus on community education and outreach.

What does this year’s theme “Go Red, Get Connected” mean to you?

“Go Red, Get Connected” is about the value of community connections. Positive connections among friends, family and neighbors drive improved health outcomes through a focus on education, healthy eating, exercise and preventive care.
