As a cardiac electrophysiologist, Dr. Ethan Hoch spends his days installing pacemakers and defibrillators, as well as performing ablations to treat abnormal heart rhythms, also known as arrhythmias.
Dr. Hoch began working at The Heart Center, an affiliate of Nuvance Health, in Poughkeepsie in July and has hit the ground running with plans to expand and see patients in the Fishkill location starting in March.
“I chose electrophysiology because it allows me to care for people using a combination of medicine, physiology, engineering and technology, all of which I am passionate about,” Dr. Hoch said.
Dr. Hoch earned his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx. He completed his internal medicine training at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx and his cardiology and electrophysiology training at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY. Dr. Hoch is board certified in both internal medicine and cardiovascular disease.
His expertise includes cardiac rhythm management, cardiac device implantation and extraction, as well as left atrial appendage occlusion procedures, where an implant is placed in the heart of patients with atrial fibrillation who do not qualify for long-term use of blood thinners.
“I strive to listen intently and educate patients about the evidence behind their treatment options,” Dr. Hoch said. “Patients should expect quality cardiac care delivered with compassion through open communication.”
