Light the Village Pink

09/26/2021

The Village of Rhinebeck will sparkle and shine pink all October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a kickoff event on Friday, October 1.

Northern Dutchess Hospital, Rhinebeck Area Chamber of Commerce and the Village of Rhinebeck are hosting a new initiative called “Light the Village Pink” during October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Village of Rhinebeck will sparkle and shine pink in October to celebrate and remember everyone who has been affected by breast cancer, generate awareness about screening mammograms and raise funds to support the breast program at Northern Dutchess Hospital.

Businesses and residents are invited to a kickoff lighting ceremony from 6 pm to 6:45 pm on Friday, October 1 at Foster’s Coach House Tavern. There is no cost to attend the ceremony. Registration is requested. Participants must wear masks. Pink masks will be available to attendees. To register, visit nuvancehealth.org/mc/lightthevillagepink or text lighthevillagepink to #41444. Messaging and data rates may apply.

Northern Dutchess Hospital will provide complimentary pink light bulbs to businesses and residents who are encouraged to join the fun by adorning their buildings, offices, stores and homes with pink lights, ribbons and decorations.

Pink light bulbs are available for pick up now throughout October at the following locations in Rhinebeck:

  • Foster’s Coach House Tavern: 11:30 am to 9 pm, Tuesday through Sunday
  • Rhinebeck Area Chamber of Commerce: 10 am to 3 pm, Monday through Friday
  • Williams Lumber: 7 am to 7 pm, Monday through Friday; 7 am to 5 pm, Saturday; 9 am to 3 pm, Sunday

Participants are invited to share photos of their pink decorations on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and tag Northern Dutchess Hospital, Nuvance Health, Rhinebeck Area Chamber of Commerce and the Village of Rhinebeck.

Dr. Lisa D. Curcio, a board-certified, fellowship-trained breast surgeon, joined Northern Dutchess Hospital last October to establish a breast program.

“Residents in the Rhinebeck area now have access to the latest, quality breast care in their own community — from screenings and diagnostics to treatments and survivorship services,” said Denise George, president, Northern Dutchess Hospital. “We are excited to partner with the Rhinebeck Area Chamber of Commerce and Village of Rhinebeck to ‘Light the Village Pink’ and rally our communities together for breast health awareness and support of Northern Dutchess Hospital’s breast program.”

“The Village of Rhinebeck is honored to be a part of this partnership with Northern Dutchess Hospital and the Rhinebeck Area Chamber of Commerce to increase awareness about breast cancer,” said Gary Bassett, Mayor, Village of Rhinebeck.

“The Rhinebeck Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to be a partner, along with the Village of Rhinebeck, in Northern Dutchess Hospital’s new ‘Light the Village Pink’ initiative. Breast cancer awareness and relaying the importance of routine screenings saves lives every day!” said Carolyn Bernitt, Executive Director, Rhinebeck Area Chamber of Commerce.
