Norwalk Hospital announced its new Chief of Radiation Oncology, Dr. Philip Gilbo. Dr. Gilbo is a Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center radiation oncologist who has been caring for patients at Norwalk Hospital for the past two years. He specializes in treating multiple cancers including breast, genitourinary, gastrointestinal, head and neck and metastatic cancers.

“Radiation oncology — one of the main pillars of cancer treatment — is very technology-driven and there have been many advancements in the last decade,” said Dr. Gilbo. “As a result, we have more treatment options available to our patients that can help deliver better outcomes and survival rates with fewer side effects.”

Dr. Gilbo said what he likes most about practicing medicine is getting to know his patients, building trust and cultivating relationships. He encourages his patients to be involved in decision-making and helps them discover what treatment is best for them.

“I would like my patients to feel like they are seeing a family member when they are under my care,” said Dr. Gilbo. “I feel privileged to be able to help individuals with cancer and offer them real hope for a cure.”

Dr. Gilbo completed his residency in radiation oncology at Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine/Zucker School. He earned a medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine, and a Master of Science in Management from the University of Florida Hough Graduate School of Business.

When he is not seeing patients, Dr. Gilbo enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons, playing music and reading. He is also a sci-fi fan who is into technology and builds computers as a hobby.

Dr. Gilbo sees patients at Norwalk Hospital’s C. Anthony and Jean Whittingham Cancer Center, part of Nuvance Health. To schedule an appointment, please call (203) 852-2719. Learn more about Dr. Gilbo.
