In anticipation of the return of babies being delivered at Putnam Hospital, a new obstetrics and gynecology office has opened at the facility.
Nuvance Health Obstetrician and Gynecologist (OB-GYN) Dr. Elizabeth Lucal began seeing patients on Thursday, Dec. 29, in Suite 110 at Putnam Hospital.
“This is a great location for patients since it provides families the benefit of being at a small, family-centered facility that is associated with tertiary care hospitals. If those higher levels of care are needed, they are available,” Dr. Lucal said. “Also, having the outpatient office in the hospital is a benefit to patients. The ease of knowing that your appointments are in the same building that you will deliver in, can be very helpful and limit the stressors related to pregnancy.”
Following a pause of labor and delivery services, Putnam Hospital’s unit is expected to reopen in January 2023. The OB Hospitalist Group will provide 24/7 coverage and an additional obstetrics-gynecologist is expected to join Putnam Hospital in August 2023. Nuvance Health is also recruiting to bring on another obstetrics-gynecologist in 2023.
Dr. Lucal has been with Nuvance Health for more than six years. She also sees patients in Fishkill and Poughkeepsie. She earned her medical degree from Michigan State University and her obstetrics-gynecologist training from Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.
“I chose obstetrics-gynecology because women are amazing patients to work with,” she said. “Women are the core of the family, create miracles daily and have a depth of strength I don't see anywhere else.”
