Highland primary care office welcomes nurse practitioner

Cassandra Weigert, NP

Nine years ago, she was an intern at a hospital, learning how healthcare technology systems work. Over the course of almost a decade, she worked her way up, from a pharmacy tech to a registered nurse to today.

“I always dreamed of working in the medical field since a young child,” said Cassandra Weigert, a family medicine nurse practitioner with Nuvance Health Medical Practice’s Highland primary care location. As an advanced practice nurse certified in family medicine, she can see children and adults.

Raised in Wallkill, Weigert is most excited about delivering care in a community she feels closely connected to. Her years of experience monitoring vital signs, assisting physicians with complex procedures, performing EKGs and drawing blood led her to primary care — where she can really make a difference, she said.

“Working in the hospital, I saw a lot of patients who didn’t have the appropriate care and support once they were discharged. I hope to be that extra support they need,” Weigert said.

An adjunct nursing professor, she will continue to teach at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh. The college is her alma mater, and she holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing.

In Weigert’s spare time, she bowls, travels, cooks, cheers for the New York Giants, and spends time with her husband and their Bernese Mountain Dog named Ruby.
