Former ER nurse joins Danbury primary care office

Headshot of Danbury family nurse practitioner Camilla Dutra

Years of working in  emergency departments has taught Camilla Dutra how essential preventive medicine is.

Dutra will guide patients through health screenings, chronic disease prevention and more as a new family nurse practitioner at Nuvance Health Medical Practice in Danbury.

“I decided to become a nurse practitioner to be more involved with patients’ care,” Dutra, a Danbury native, said. “I want to develop lasting patient-doctor relationships and keep them of out of emergency rooms.”

She is accepting new patients, ages 18 and older. She speaks Portuguese as well.

After nearly a decade-long career as a registered nurse, she recently received her nurse practitioner degree from Southern Connecticut University in New Haven. During rotations, she trained at Yale New Haven and Stamford hospitals as well as primary, pediatric and OB/GYN medical practices throughout Fairfield County.

Prior to her family medicine training, she worked as an ER nurse for eight years, including at Danbury and Norwalk hospitals, and as a surgical nurse in Danbury and Waterbury for five years.

She has a bachelor’s in nursing from Western Connecticut State University.

Dutra is adventurous, preferring to travel, hike or spend a sunny day on the lake rather than stay home. And, above all, she appreciates time spent with family and friends.
