The untimely death of her father inspired Kellie Forshey to become a family nurse practitioner so she can help others prevent similar outcomes.

“My father did not have a primary care doctor or any screening checks for more than 10 years and died suddenly of a heart attack at a young age,” said Forshey, Nuvance Health Medical Practice’ newest Kingston primary care team member. “That experience instilled a drive in me to provide preventive medicine in my community.”

After six years as a medical-surgical registered nurse at Albany Medical Center, the Milton, Ulster County, resident headed back to college to advance her bachelor’s degree in nursing. She completed her advanced practitioner training last year through SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Utica.

In her spare time, you will likely find Forshey out walking her two dogs — a Labrador-terrier mix and border collie — while admiring the birds, or with her husband, Mitchell Forshey, a primary care physician assistant with Nuvance Health in Rhinebeck.

Kingston’s Nuvance Health Medical Practice is in Kingston Plaza, 334 Plaza Road. To make an appointment, visit our website or call (845) 338-0180 TTY/accessibility (800) 421-1220.
