The New Year’s Day baby was due on Christmas. However, she arrived a week late on her own terms. She was the first baby born at Nuvance Health’s Hudson Valley hospitals, arriving at 12:57 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1.

Maya weighed 8 pounds, 3 ounces, and measured 19 inches long.

“She did not want to come out,” said her mother, Kaitlyn Kaminsky, from her birthing suite at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck. “I didn’t think she was ever going to come.”

Kaminsky went into labor on New Year’s Eve around 6 p.m. while doing laundry at her Rhinebeck home. She and Maya’s father, Alfredo Martinez, had just set up Maya’s Pack N Play and were listening to music.

Having forgotten what laboring was like with her other daughters, ages 10 and 13, she didn’t realize she was having real contractions.

“You think you’ll remember what it feels like, but you don’t,” she said.

She and Martinez arrived at the hospital around 10 p.m. on Dec. 31 with mom 8 centimeters dilated. After just 30 minutes of pushing and her precious third daughter was born.

“I am so happy she’s here,” she said.
