Forming strong relationships with her patients so they can work together to optimize care is what Nuvance Health cardiologist Dr. Latha Subramaniam values most.

Dr. Subramaniam joined Nuvance Health Medical Practice in Danbury in December, specializing in cardiac imaging, coronary artery disease, valvular disease and preventive cardiology. In addition to cardiology, she is board certified in echocardiography, nuclear cardiology and cardiovascular computed tomography.

She can often be found producing and evaluating detailed images of the heart during routine screenings and complex cardiac procedures.

“I chose cardiology because it is a special field that is constantly advancing in terms of what we can offer patients,” she said. “It also allows me to not only care for patients when they are critically ill but to also form long-term relationships with them.”

From a young age, Dr. Subramaniam was drawn to cardiology, she said, because her mother had heart disease. Her interests in math and science also led her to major in biomedical engineering in college that further strengthened her interest in the technical and innovative aspects of cardiology.

Dr. Subramaniam earned her medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine. She completed her internal medicine residency at the University of Michigan and cardiovascular fellowship at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine. While she is of Sri Lankan descent, Dr. Subramaniam is fluent in Spanish because of her medical studies in South America.

When she is not working, Dr. Subramaniam enjoys kayaking, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
