Cardiologist Dr. Daniel O’Dea is the latest addition to the medical staff at The Heart Center, a Nuvance Health affiliate, in Sharon. He will treat patients at its Sharon Hospital location, 50 Hospital Hill Road.

“Cardiovascular services are critical to supporting general wellness, so enhancing current services will set a new standard for what it means to improve your heart health,” O’Dea said.

O’Dea will provide expertise and education on varying conditions, including preventive cardiology, to help patients achieve optimal cardiovascular health.

The veteran physician previously led operations for The Heart Center during his tenure as vice president of cardiovascular services with Nuvance Health, formerly Health Quest. During this time, he also managed cardiology, cardiovascular and vascular surgeries.

O’Dea was one of the pioneering cardiologists who helped open the cardiac catheterization lab at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in October 1993. This was the foundation for what has developed into a robust cardiac-thoracic surgery service in the Poughkeepsie area.

“His contributions and leadership within the cardiology service line makes him a strong asset to our program and community,” said Dr. Mark Hirko, hospital president. “We welcome him to the region and look forward to increasing the hospital’s capacity for cardiology services in partnership with cardiologist Dr. Donald Soucier and Patricia Dione, nurse practitioner.”

O’Dea received his medical degree at New York Medical College in Valhalla. He completed his internship and residency at University Hospital of Boston University and his fellowship in cardiovascular diseases at Westchester Medical Center, also in Valhalla. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry.

He is board certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Internal Medicine with a subspecialty in cardiovascular disease. He was the first cardiologist in Dutchess County to be board certified in cardiovascular computed tomography.
